You shouldn't need a lot of help with The Organizer but this page provides it if you need it. Generally, if you click the buttons and pay attention you will figure out how it all works.
--Three Very Important Points--
1. Some of the features will not work correctly until January 1,1999. For example, if you start the Organizer during December of 1998, it will jump to the December 1999 calendar. You can still move to any page you desire.
2. Do NOT change the names of any of the files that came with your Organizer. Some functions will not work correctly if you do. Keep them in one folder. You can name that folder anything that makes sense to you.
3. The Organizer will not work correctly unless you have the correct date set for your Macintosh. To set the correct date, go to the Control Panels in the Apple Menu and choose Date and Time. AND, the choice for the long date format in the Date and Time Control Panel should look like this: Saturday, May 24, 1998.
--Other Less Important Points--
•The screen size was designed for a PowerBook. It allows space on the right and bottom of the desktop for important icons. The Organizer will not display correctly on a small screen.
•The Organizer can be customized for a fee. Contact the author at one of the addresses listed at the bottom of this help area.
--The Calendar Page--
•This page contains the month name, year, various buttons and calendar for the month. The calendar has a small area for typing notes for each date. The rectangle which contains the date number is actually a button. Clicking it will take you to the daily schedule page for that date.
•You can type notes on the calendar. Click in the chosen date and type. If you press ENTER in one of the daily fields the text will be copied to the Daily Page for you.
•For longer notes use the little "popped up" area in the corner. Click on it and it will expand. Type your note and press the ENTER key to make it shrink again. The cursor must be in the area for the Enter key to make it shrink. CAUTION- ONLY OPEN ONE OF THESE LITTLE POPUP FIELDS AT A TIME.
•There are several other buttons on the calendar page. The button that looks like a stack of calendars will take you to a calendar page that shows the entire year. The 2000 calendar can be seen by pressing the "next arrow button" from the 1999 calendar.
•The button that looks like a printer will print the calendar page on your default printer. You can choose to print the current month, the whole year, or start with the month of your choice.
•The button that looks like a phone on a phone book will take you to a different stack called “The Phonebook”. It is a simple little database for keeping phone numbers and addresses.
•The button which looks like a calculator will open the calculator from your Apple menu.
•The button with the question mark will open this help area.
•The buttons with the forward and backward pointing hands will take you to the previous or next month calendar.
•There is a hidden button in the extreme upper right of the calendar pages. Clicking it will hide other open applications. The same action that is taken when you choose "hide others" from the Application Menu.
•The button that looks like a curved arrow will take you back to the last previously visited page.
•Clicking on the small area that shows the current date will update the calendar's display thus highlighting the current date.
--The Daily Pages--
The daily schedule pages have places to record your appointments and a “To Do” list. The appointment times can be customized. Click on a time and you will be given the opportunity to change it. When changed, it affects daily schedule pages for the entire year. Clicking next to a time allows you to enter your appointments. Using the tab key jumps you down one appointment time. Using shift+tab jumps you up one appointment time.
•The to do list works like a small word processing document. You can cut, paste, delete, etc.
•The "Today's Date:" area will take you to the current day's page when clicked.
•The buttons that look like the ones from the calendar page, work the same way. The others are described below.
•The button that looks like the printer allows you to print the current day's schedule with to do list and month calendar, or up to 31 daily pages.
•The forward and backward pointing arrows take you one day forward or backward in your schedule.
•The button that looks like one calendar takes you back to the calendar page.
•The button that looks like a to do list, transfers the previous day's list to the current day’s list. It places the transferred list after the list on the current date.
•The button that looks like a curved arrow will take you back to the last previously visited page.
•Clicking on the words "To Do:" above the To Do List will print the list.
•The "Scheduler" button allows you to enter a recurring appointment. It will prompt you for the information it needs.
•You can add a permanent item to the daily schedule pages (not erased by the monthly update of the schedule pages) but you must use the art tools and "paint" it on to the pages you desire. Read these instructions carefully before trying this:
1. Navigate to the daily page where you want to add a permanent appointment.
2. Go to the "Tools" Menu and click, hold, and drag the tool palette down to a corner of the screen.
3. You can now see all of the HyperCard Tools. Not all of them are available if you have HyperCard Player installed.
4. The bottom left tool is the "Text Tool". Double click it and you can choose font, size, and some formatting choices. Click "OK".
5. Your cursor has changed to an "I bar". Click next to the schedule time you want to annotate.
6. Type in your data.
7. When finished click on the hand in the tool palette and close the tool palette.
8. You can use the "Selection Tools" (2nd row-left and middle) to capture your text for copying and pasting onto other daily pages. Capture the text, choose "Copy" from the "Edit" Menu, navigate to the new page and, choose "Paste" from the "Edit" Menu.
9. Mistakes can be erased with the "Eraser Tool" (3rd row-middle). Just choose the tool and click, hold and drag over the area you want erased. CAUTION--DOUBLE CLICKING THE ERASER TOOL CAN ERASE GRAPHICS WHICH ARE NEEDED FOR THE ORGANIZER TO DISPLAY CORRECTLY. But don't worry, you have a back up copy saved, right?
--Yearly Calendar Pages--
The yearly calendar pages show the year at a glance. You can look at the current and upcoming year. Click on a month and jump to that month's calendar page. The buttons on these pages work the same as previously explained.
--The Notepad Page--
The notepad page is a convenient place to create quick documents like memos and fax cover sheets. The "Set User Data" menu (only visible on the Notepad Page) lets you enter data like your name, address, fax #, etc. for inclusion in the documents. After entering your data, the buttons on the bottom of the page will use that data in your documents.
The "Insert" menu lets you insert any of your previously entered data into your documents. For example, you might need to insert your e-mail address in a memo.
Experiment with the buttons and you will see how helpful they are. Any of the notes you make can be saved as SimpleText files using the "Save the Note" button. The print button will prompt you for the number of copies.
--The Utility Page--
The Utility page has some of the same buttons you will find elsewhere AND buttons which will wipe out all the data in the calendars! Be careful and back up your documents often.
Registration infomation is also available on the Utility Page.
--The Phonebook--
The Phone book is a simple database for keeping track of addresses and phone numbers. It is provided here free of charge. It is an adaptation of an address book which came with some previous version of the HyperCard software.
•The button that looks like a printer will print the current address card.
•The button which looks like a report will give you the option of printing a list of names and phone numbers or a complete address book.
•The find button with a magnifying glass opens a command box where you can enter a name for a search. Type the text you wish to search for inside the quotation marks and hit return.
•The calendar button takes you back to the calendar that you came from.
•The sort button allows you to reorder your address cards by first or last name. If you always enter last name first on your cards, choose first name. If you always enter first name first on your cards, choose last name.
•The delete button with the trash can will throw the current card away.
•The new card button gives you a new blank card. Choose sort after filling it in.
•The "New Year?" button allows you to change the "Return to the Organizer" button. This will be helpful if you decide to use Organizer 2000.
•The help button shows you this help text.
